It's finally starting to warm up here a little!!! Yesterday, a few of us went to Newcastle beach because it was 70 degrees and a beautiful day. We brought towels, homework, a frisbee, some sandals and hung out in the sand and on the rocks for a couple of hours. Deanna and I adventured a little bit by climbing the rocks and finding some cool seashells and sea glass. The feeling I got while sitting on the rocks and looking out into the ocean was indescribable. It was one of those moments where you sit back, smile, and say to yourself, "Life is so beautiful." Things have been going great here, and everyday is filled with joy. Even the ones that involve school. How can I possibly be upset, or miserable when I'm in Australia?!
Sooooo I cannot believe that it's already August. Time has flown by so fast, but I am so grateful that I still have so much time left here in Australia. I couldn't imagine having to pack my things and go back to High Point in two weeks. I couldn't imagine anything else but being exactly where I am. It's still odd that I'm doing schoolwork and homework here, but hopefully I will get in the swing of it quickly. Many exciting things are happening, so it's kind of hard to even be mad about school like I usually would be.
I'm not sure how many of you know this, but I am actually Australian from my dad's side. Probably around 25-35%. My Grandmother was born and raised here, and so was the rest of her entire family. Because of this, I still have a lot of family spread all over the country that I plan to visit during my stay here. I just booked my flight to Melbourne in late September to go visit and stay with my Great Aunt Audrey, who is my Grandmother's sister. I've met her when I was very little, but do not remember. I'm so excited to become reconnected with my roots, and to learn all about this side of my family. I have aunts, uncles & cousins on the Gold Coast, in Townsville and I'm sure in many other places that I don't even know of! My goal is to meet and visit as many of them as I can while I'm here.
Earlier this week, I also booked my spring break trip.... TO BALI!!!!!! For those who don't know, Bali is an exotic destination in Indonesia. Words cannot describe how excited I am to visit Asia, to see a completely new culture, and to stay here for 11 days. We haven't planned our itinerary yet, we just wanted to book the flight because we caught it at a super low fare. The plan is to visit elephant sanctuaries, monkey temples, the Gili Islands, skydiving, hiking on volcanoes, etc.. We have heard only great things about the location, so we're all really pumped about it. The Great Barrier Reef trip is also in 19 DAYS so I'm very stoked about that too. Right now, I can only smile and be incredibly thankful about all of the great things that are happening :)
